The Toronto Raptors are unlikely to be Kevin Durant's next team — at least, for the time being.
With the Raptors now nearly three months removed from their last game, trade rumours have been in full swing. The latest big name that the Raptors have seen themselves linked to this week is Milwaukee's Giannis Antetokounmpo, with the Toronto Star's Doug Smith sharing that the team and the star have "mutual interest" should a suitable package surface.
Later on Monday, the parody X account "LogionHoops" — a spinoff of LegionHoops, a popular aggregator account wrote the following: "Kevin Durant and Giannis have had 'talks' about teaming up in Toronto," while tagging another parody account playing off ESPN personality Shams Charania.
It was a clear dupe with a bit of investigation, as even LogionHoops' bio clearly states it's a parody page.
Still, not everyone got the message.
A fan with the handle @LethalLefty32 tagged Durant in the post, saying that it would be "p***y sh**," suggesting teaming up with another superstar like Antetokounmpo would be the "easy way out" in the modern NBA.
Given that Durant has teamed up previously with star players Steph Curry, Klay Thompson, and Draymond Green in Golden State; Kyrie Irving and James Harden in Brooklyn; and Devin Booker and Bradley Beal in Phoenix, the man who ranks eighth all-time in NBA scoring has garnered a bit of a reputation for his team choices over his lengthy career.

But Durant himself shut down this "rumour" — if you can call it that — simply replying "fake page" to @LethalLefty32.
With Durant having a reputation as one of the NBA's "most online" players, perhaps it's no surprise that he's spending another morning online replying to fans and shutting down rumours, no matter the source.
Durant has stated that he actually grew up a fan of the Raptors, with Vince Carter as his first favourite player while he was a kid in Washington, D.C.
But things have gotten a little interesting since then.
In front of a massive crowd in Toronto, official team ambassador Drake once attempted to recruit Durant at OVO Fest back in 2014, which led to a US$25,000 fine for the team.
Back in the 2019 Finals while playing with Golden State, Durant suffered a season-ending Achilles injury that sidelined him for all of the 2019-20 campaign.
With many Raptors fans pictured cheering on the injury in crowd shots after the play, it’s an instance that’s often referenced as a negative on the Toronto fanbase, though Durant himself has admitted on multiple occasions that he holds no animosity towards their initial reactions in a high-intensity moment.
In 2022, while he was a member of the Brooklyn Nets, Durant was heavily linked to a possible trade to the Raptors before eventually being shipped to the Phoenix Suns.
"I love Canada. I love Toronto. Has always been nothing but love and respect here. They appreciate the game of basketball to its core," Durant said earlier this year following a game in Toronto. "They appreciate my journey as a player, so I always have fun coming here. Crowd is always on its feet all game. So they love basketball here, so I enjoy coming up here."
