If you're seeking a tropical getaway this upcoming winter, you'll be pleased to hear that a new flight route will soon connect Toronto with a South American country known for its lush rainforests and high biodiversity.
Montreal-headquartered airline Air Transat will be launching a new non-stop flight service between Toronto Pearson Airport and Guyana's capital, Georgetown. Nicknamed the "Garden City of the Caribbean," Georgetown is the retail and administrative centre of the country.
Guyana is the only mainland South American country in which English is the official language, and is known for its natural resources, including its dense rainforests, sugarcane plantations, rice fields, and gold reserves.
Rainforests cover roughly 80 per cent of Guyana, and the country's majestic Kaieteur Falls, located in Kaieteur National Park, are located just a short flight away from Georgetown. Known as the world's largest single-drop waterfall, the attraction is rarely busy thanks to its remote location and the fact that the country only welcomes 300,000 tourists every year.
"With this new route, we are expanding our presence in South America while optimizing the use of our aircraft," said Sebastian Ponce, Transat's Chief Revenue Officer. "This addition meets a strong demand from the Guyanese diaspora in Canada, while also tapping into a growing market and a leisure clientele curious to discover new destinations."
The airline will be operating the new route with the A321LR, with ergonomic cabins and an in-flight entertainment system. Flights are already available for booking online, and the service will operate twice weekly on Tuesdays and Fridays from Dec. 16, 2025, to April 24, 2026.
The airline also recently announced a twice-weekly service between Toronto and Medellín, Colombia, with a stopover in Cartagena. The details of the airline's full winter 2025-26 program are set to be announced soon.
